Study Psychology at Biddenham

Psychology is currently the most popular subject choice in year 12 and year 13 at Biddenham.
We are able to offer GCSE Psychology at Level 2; and AS and A Level Psychology at Level 3.
We have had an increase in overall A*-C grades at A Level over the past 2 years.

Department Information

The department offers a range of post-16 courses for both the level 2 and level 3 curriculum. Students on the L2 course can study for a GCSE in Psychology (EDEXCEL PEARSON). Students on the L3 course can study AS or A Level Psychology (EDUQAS). Each course offers eight timetabled lessons per fortnight and students are expected, in addition, to work independently outside of the classroom. Independent work would typically involve research, note-taking, exam practice, revision and provide creative learning opportunities. As part of the course students engage in practical research.

Students’ feedback:

“Thank you for the last two years. I really enjoyed Psychology” Ross
“Thank you for all the help you gave me in Psychology” Rebecca
“I chose Psychology at the beginning of year 12 because it was something new; I never thought I would have such an interest and passion for it as I do” Charlotte

Curriculum support

The department utilises Google Classroom to encourage engagement with both learning and technology. Lesson resources are therefore accessible outside of the classroom. We also have a dedicated classroom to provide links to additional materials of interest to anyone studying Psychology for example TV shows, news/magazine articles.

Each year we endeavour to facilitate an educational visit for our students. Most recently travelling to London, on a cross-curriculum visit with Law and Criminology students, to the Old Bailey to witness court proceedings.

The exam specifications have a significant focus on English, Maths and Science skills and we support students with this throughout their lessons.

Mrs Emma Latchman – Head of Psychology
