The specification offers a skills-based approach to the study of English Language. This enables candidates to make fresh and individual responses to each element of assessment. The specification is most suitable for those who wish to explore English Language in more depth and experience greater breadth of English studies at this level.
There is a single exam in the summer term. Students will be assessed over a 2 hour and 15 minute period. The paper is split into two sections. The first section requires students to answer four questions based on three reading sources. The second section requires students to complete two creative writing tasks – one shorter task (worth 16 marks) and one longer task (worth 24 marks).
All students who did not achieve at least a C-grade at the end of Year 11 will study GCSE English / English Language. The exam board is AQA.
A good command of the spoken and written word is vital for success in other subject areas. English is a must have subject for college, university, work and life.
