Biddenham International School & Sports College is a thriving, inclusive, multicultural, 11-19 school of 1280 students which is rated ‘Good’ in all areas by Ofsted in March 2019. The school has a student centred focus and chromebooks are used by all students to support daily learning.
We seek to appoint an unqualified or recently qualified Librarian to manage and further develop the school library and resource centre. This position would suit a self-motivated, ambitious individual who is looking to make their next professional career step. The school will support career development for this role.
The post holder will be responsible for the acquisition, organisation and dissemination of resources appropriate to the learning needs of the full age and ability range within the school.
We are keen to see the library developed to its full potential. The forward thinking post holder will create an inviting and information rich learning environment and coordinate reading schemes which promote engagement and a breadth of reading, to develop the information literacy skills of all students. Interaction with students across all key stages is vital in ensuring the library becomes a vibrant hub of learning.
The library has a wide selection of over 10,000 up-to-date books, magazines and daily newspapers, including the Times and the ‘i’. The Librarian will source book requests, organise quizzes and displays featuring library books on events in the news, including climate change, Armistice Day and Black Lives Matter. Our access to ebooks is through the Wheelers eplatform and we subscribe to EMAG to support A Level English Literature. Students are encouraged to use Issues Online, English and Science Reference Centre in lessons. There are currently 5 fixed IT stations for student use and the library is used for English lessons and Tutor Group sessions from time to time.
