Biddenham international School is a thriving, multi-cultural, 11-19 school of 1200 students which is rated ‘Good’ in all areas by Ofsted in March 2019. The school has a student centred focus and chromebooks are used by all students to support daily learning.
The successful candidate will join our friendly, well qualified and collaborative PE and Performing Arts Faculty, which has well established systems for tracking student progress. The post holder requires strong knowledge and experience of teaching KS3 Drama and taking a GCSE (AQA) exam group through year 11. Confidence to deliver A Level Drama at year 12 (AQA) and knowledge of the GCSE examination process and requirements is vital.
Drama is taught as a compulsory subject in years 7 & 8. The lessons are themed to support the creative curriculum on a half termly rotation model. GCSE Drama is studied across years 9 to 11. A Level is taught across years 12 & 13.
The Drama Department is well resourced and is committed to extending and improving its range of opportunities for students. Practical lessons are the focus through KS3 units. KS4 & KS5 are balanced equally between theory and practical to support the requirements of GCSE and A Level specifications.
We offer an extensive Performing Arts extracurricular programme and much of this activity is incorporated into productions and showcases throughout the year. The successful candidate will take responsibility for the leadership of this programme of Drama events through the year, including an annual Whole School Production. The department is supported by a Performing Arts Technician.
The school sees the form tutor as a key role in the support, development and welfare of the students and teachers are expected to undertake this role with the same standards and commitment as their subject role.
The successful candidate must be a well qualified and professional classroom practitioner who is enthusiastic about their work with young people and have a genuine concern for their development as individuals. The ability to each additional subjects would be desirable.
This is a great opportunity to lead a dynamic department and would be ideal for either an experienced HOD or someone looking to make that next step.
