National Cold War Exhibition, RAF Cosford

November 2023

Dear Parent/Carers

National Cold War Exhibition, RAF Cosford

As part of our Cold War and Superpower Relations module in GCSE History we would like to take students to the National Cold War Exhibition Centre at RAF Cosford’s Royal Air Force Museum in Shropshire (https://www.rafmuseum.org.uk/cosford/) on Wednesday 13th December. This will help them consolidate their learning on the Superpower Relations and the Cold War exam unit from earlier in their GCSE.

Students will need to be at school for 7.45am, for an 8.00am departure. We will travel by coach to the venue, returning by 5.00pm (traffic permitting). It is advised that students  wear weather appropriate non-uniform clothing as there is a lot of walking (some of it will be from building to building), and bring a packed lunch (including a drink) as there is no provision for students to purchase food.  Students who receive free school meals will have their lunch provided for them.

The cost of the trip will be £21.00. This covers the cost of the coach, an activity at the museum and contributes towards the cost of the lesson cover for the staff necessary to run the trip. In order for students to guarantee their places, we are asking for parental consent and payment to be made by Friday 17th November. Payment and consent should be made through ParentPay. This trip will be available on your ParentPay account from 9.00am on Friday 10th November.

Additionally, students can book onto the VR experience (they are the pilot of a plane) or use a Typhoon flight simulator. These will be available through ParentPay but need to be paid for separately to the main trip, at a cost of £4.00 each. There is also a small gift shop they may visit but we ask that students do not bring a lot of money with them.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you require any further information.

Yours Sincerely

Mrs Ree Ann Vaughan
