Engagement and Alternative Curriculum

“The answer is not to standardise education, but to personalise and customise it to the needs of each child and community. There is no alternative. There never was.” - Ken Robinson

Department Overview

The core principles of the Engagement and Alternative Curriculum are:

Personalisation: We believe in providing a rich and varied curriculum ensuring breadth of experience for all. Our curriculum is designed with consideration of the aspirations and needs of our students and the local and national economic community to which we belong. This allows us to offer maximum choice and facilitate the provision of inspiring the relevant learning experiences.

Inclusion: We strive to identify and tackle the barriers preventing access to education for every student.

Success: We believe that every student should have the opportunity to enjoy their learning and achieve at the highest level so that they feel proud of what they have accomplished during their time at Biddenham.

The alternative curriculum offered is carefully designed to cater for the needs of our students. Where required, students may need further personalisation, in order to meet their needs. The alternative courses can lead to qualifications.

We have bespoke programmes which we can run on a one to one or on a small group basis, addressing specific areas of students’ personal development, as required.

We additionally support students who may come into school mid academic year, who may require support before they fully immerse themselves within their new curriculum.

We are part of PiXL and we also network with other schools, both locally and nationally to ensure our alternative provision meets the needs of every learner at Biddenham.
