Extended Project Qualification

"The future belongs to those who learn more skills and combine them in creative ways." - Robert Greene

Department Overview

The Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) is a Level 3 course which can be taken alongside A levels. Students opt for either EPQ or Core Maths. If your child studied with us from year 7, they will have experienced Project Based Learning and it follows the same themes.

Students will be required to complete a project on a topic of their choice focusing on the skills of planning, research, developing a project and reviewing the process. The project can be in the form of an essay or report or an artefact, e.g. a musical composition, piece of artwork or dramatic project (artefact options must be backed up with a written report). Depending on the grade you achieve, you can gain between 8-28 UCAS points.

An EPQ will help you develop a useful range of extra study skills, helping you prepare for the demands of university work. It is valued by higher education institutions as it demonstrates your dedication to independent learning and is often included in offers made by institutions to applicants.

It is also an excellent opportunity to either extend your learning in another subject, focus on a subject you enjoyed at GCSE but are not studying as an A level, or develop a piece of work inspired by one of your hobbies.
