Silverstone Interactive Museum, Towcester

The Design Technology Department (DT) have organised a visit for year 9 students to the Silverstone Race Track educational museum on Friday 12th January 2024. The motor racing industry has a rich history of engineering and design, and has been at the forefront of much material and engineering science over the years. This will be both an exciting and educational experience. This is a wonderful opportunity to see the design and development aspects of the course applied in a real world setting.

The visit will include a workshop with one of the Learning Leaders in a dedicated studio overlooking the circuit. This incorporates elements of the Science & Technology of motorsport, materials and design as well as careers and provides students with the opportunity to handle genuine motorsport items.

The group will also have access to the main exhibition which incorporates the history of Silverstone itself as well as the history of motorsport. The various exhibits also allow students to explore the wider aspects of racing, including medical support, mechanics, safety, and via the Tech Lab, the technology and engineering itself. There will also be the opportunity to get close to genuine raced vehicles, clothing and other related items.

Students will also visit the Heritage Track Trail, where they will get the chance to walk on a section of the original Silverstone Circuit. This provides them with a great view of some areas of the current circuit and a close up view of any on track activity that may be happening on the day.

We will be travelling to and from the venue by coach, departing Biddenham at 9.00am and arriving back at 2.30pm traffic permitting. Students are to wear school uniform and will be required to bring a packed lunch. Anyone in receipt of free school meals will be able to collect a packed lunch from the
cafeteria prior to departure.

The cost of this trip is £19.00 which includes travel and entry to the museum. Places will be available to book from 13th November 2023. Places are limited and available on a first come first served basis. To secure a place, please provide consent and payment via your ParentPay account.
