Preparing for Adulthood Festival

November 2023

Dear Parent/Carer

Preparing for Adulthood Festival

I am writing to you to invite your child to the Preparing for Adulthood Festival at Bedford Corn Exchange on 7th November 2023. The Preparing for Adulthood Festival, organised by Bedford Borough SEND, will help young people think about their future options.

Students will have the opportunity to speak directly to a wide range of providers to learn about options and services available to young people in Bedford. They will also be able to speak to employers about career options, have a go at team building exercises and attend workshops on CV writing and interview skills. The day will be full of fun and interactive activities for the students to get involved with.

Areas covered will include:

Education – Talk to education providers about the courses available and the entry requirements

Employment – The difference between a Supported Internship and an Apprenticeship – meet young people with experience to help you decide what is right for you

Employment Skills – Join the interactive workshops on CV writing and interview skills and meet representatives from the Jobs Hub and Employment Support

Independent Living Skills – Find out more about travelling independently or housing options

Community – Find out about the exciting social opportunities you can get involved with

Adult Services – For young people with high level needs there will be representatives from health and social care that will be able to take you through the referral processes

The booked sessions are as follows:

10.45am-11.15am – Apprenticeship Workshop – Registration processes ASK

12.15pm-13.15pm – Post 16 Options in Education, Employment and Training
