Queen’s Park Faith Tour

Students in year 7 are currently studying the topic of ‘Belonging’ in religious studies. They are looking at what it means to belong to a community and how this can form part of an individual’s identity. In order to support and enhance their learning we have organised a programme of activities which will focus on three local faith communities and their places of worship in Queens Park, Bedford on 9th January 2024.

Each part of this ‘Faith Tour’ will include an informative presentation and tour of the place of worship, led by a member of that faith community; students will not be asked to participate in worship. The pupils will spend time at All Saints Parish Church, Jamia Masjid Gulshan Baghdad Mosque and Guru Nanak Gurdwara. These tours have been operating successfully since 2008.

We will be leaving school at 9am and returning at 2pm. We will be walking from school to these three places of worship and students are expected to be in school uniform. They will also be expected to attend school at the normal time of 8am and will be able to make their way home at the end of the school day at normal time.

Students are to bring a packed lunch – to show respect to the different faith communities, this should be strictly vegetarian (no meat, fish or eggs) Ideas of vegetarian packed lunches can be found on the letter attached. Students in receipt of free school meals will be able to collect a packed lunch from the cafeteria before departing. Students will also need a head covering to be able to enter the Gurdwara and the Mosque.

There is no cost for this trip, so therefore we would really appreciate your support in allowing your child to attend. There are 60 places available on a first come first served basis – to reserve a place, please provide parental consent via your ParentPay account.
