Greenwich Maritime Museum

March 2024

Dear Parent/Carers

Greenwich Maritime Museum

The History department is pleased to offer the opportunity for year 8 students to participate in a trip to Greenwich Maritime Museum in London on Tuesday 9th July 2024. The trip is directly linked to the topics we have been learning about in History this year.

In History this year, lessons have been focusing on different aspects of the British Empire, including experiences of countries living under the empire, what Britain gained from the Empire and how artefacts can help us learn about the Empire. We have looked at countries like India, Zimbabwe and Canada amongst others. At the museum, students will be participating in an expert-led enquiry workshop focussed around the East India Company and the British Empire. This will include the use of the museum’s exhibitions, experts and artefacts and will bring full circle the knowledge that the students have gained this year.

The trip will cost £23.00 and includes travel, admission to the venues and the museum’s workshop activities. There are a total of 40 places available on a first come first serve basis. To secure your child’s place, please provide parental consent and payment on your ParentPay account.

Students will need to bring a packed lunch and any beverages they wish, plus a small amount of spending money if they wish, as there may be a gift shop. I would like for the trip to be non-uniform if possible and will be in touch with the specifics of this.

The trip will be leaving at 7.30am and we will be travelling by coach with the aim to return to school for a time of around 4.00pm (traffic permitting).

If you have any further questions about the trip please do not hesitate to contact me.

Yours sincerely
