Year 8 Music Workshops

June 2024

Dear Parent/Carer

Year 8 Music Workshops

We are delighted to inform you that your child has been invited to participate in an exciting day of music workshops on Tuesday 16th July here at school.

This special event will offer students the unique opportunity to engage in a variety of musical activities with external practitioners, including ‘learn- to- DJ workshops’, group music making, and watching a professional concert.

On the day of the workshops, students will be off their regular timetable. They should meet in the A4 music classroom at 8:30 AM before proceeding to the various workshop locations around the school.

The day promises to be both educational and inspiring, providing a fantastic platform for students to immerse themselves in different aspects of music. We also wish to take this opportunity to highlight the benefits of studying GCSE Music. Pursuing this subject not only nurtures creativity and enhances cognitive skills, but also opens doors to numerous opportunities in higher education and future careers. Universities often offer scholarships to students who excel in music, recognising the dedication and discipline required. Furthermore, a background in music can lead to diverse career paths, including roles in performance, education, production, journalism, media, copyright law, acoustical engineering and even therapeutic roles in the NHS. By choosing GCSE Music, students can develop a lifelong appreciation for the arts and gain valuable skills that are highly regarded in many professions.

We kindly request a contribution of £15.00 to help cover some of the costs associated with this enriching day of music workshops.  Financial support is available for Pupil Premium students to ensure everyone can participate fully in this event.  Please follow the link to ParentPay to secure your child’s place on the workshop day.  There are a limited amount of spaces available and we anticipate this to be a popular event.  Early registration is recommended.

We look forward to a day filled with music and inspiration.

Yours sincerely,

Dr Georgina Murphy
