Visual Arts Extra-Curricular Activities

The Visual Arts department puts on several activities, events and trips. Below is a sample of what is already on offer.
We visit galleries and museums such as: The National Gallery, The National Portrait Gallery, The Tate Modern, The Design Museum, The V&A, The Higgins, The Fitzwilliam
Year 8 Art – Bedford Riverbank:
We visit Bedford riverbank to complete primary observational drawings as part of our ‘Tales of the Riverbank’ topic in the autumn term.
Year 10 Textiles – Knit and Stitch Show:
The trip is an extension to work the students do in school and is a valuable element of their course. Students are able to watch textile artists at work, visit the textiles galleries, the graduate showcase and attend project demonstrations by textiles artists. They are required to produce a written and visual report of their day, which forms part of their GCSE coursework.
Year 10 Art – Higgins Museum:
Students take part in a visit to a local gallery in Bedford, which gives them a brilliant opportunity to gain subject knowledge and learn about the exciting artwork new and old.
Year 11 Art – The Fitzwilliam Museum:
The Museum, located in Cambridge, has lots to offer. Students also have the opportunity to take a tour around the city to look at the interesting architecture and monuments.
Visiting the Museum is an exciting opportunity for students to gain some valuable subject knowledge and see a vast range of artwork. They are able to explore the gallery in groups, taking photos and recordings of work that inspire them and their personal project.
Booklets are provided and students document their experience through observational drawing, which is incorporated into their GCSE coursework.
Year 12 and 13 Art, Graphics and Photography – Visits to The Design and The Victoria & Albert museums:
A Level Art and Design students visit London, where they are able to explore cityscapes around Camden and visit two large galleries which hold a vast variety of collections. Students venture out and find artists/designs to inspire their personal projects.
We also offer intervention sessions as follows:
Graphics: Mondays 2.35pm
Textiles: Mondays 2.35pm
